NFL Sunday predictions for Week 5 of the 2017 NFL season. Will the Kansas City Chiefs maintain their perfect record by beating Houston, can the Los Angeles Rams follow up that win over the Cowboys with a victory against Seattle, and who will get the better of the big clash between two of the NFC’s finest, Dallas and Green Bay? Read on for all of our free predictions and betting tips.

Buffalo Bills at Cincinnati Bengals (18:00 BST)

Buffalo have capitalised on New England’s early-season struggle to claim top spot in the AFC East, and that billing is thoroughly deserved because two of their three successes so far have come against quality teams in Denver and Atlanta. They will now look to improve to 4-1 by winning their third straight game on Sunday and I like their chances of doing just that. Cincinnati may have registered their first win of the season a week ago, but putting a beating on the Cleveland Browns is hardly an impressive effort. There are still major question marks hanging over them and they are coming up against a Buffalo defense that has not given up more than 17 points in a game so far this season and have already forced seven turnovers. That defensive unit can be the catalyst for another big road win for the Bills on Sunday.

Carolina Panthers at Detroit Lions (18:00 BST)

Carolina produced the best possible response to their shock defeat at the hands of New Orleans in Week 3, beating the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium a week ago thanks to a walk-off field goal. They head back out onto the road this weekend to face a Detroit Lions team that go back to winning ways at the expense of Minnesota a week ago. It was the typical Lions formula we have seen over the past season or so, keep it close and get the job done in the second half of the game. However, there is always the risk that that approach could backfire on them and that could well be the case here. The Panthers appear to have discovered their bite on offense and that will allow them to tame the Lions on Sunday.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Pittsburgh Steelers (18:00 BST)

Jacksonville were flying high when they crushed Baltimore at Wembley Stadium a fortnight ago, but they were brought crashing back down to Earth last weekend as they slumped to an overtime defeat at the hands of the New York Jets. Now they face one of the worst assignments they could have wished for as they look to bounce back – a trip to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers. Ben Roethlisberger & Co. hit back after that shocker in Chicago to beat the Ravens in convincing fashion last weekend, and I am backing them to make it back-to-back victories to show things are back to normal at Heinz Field.

Seattle Seahawks at Los Angeles Rams (21:05 BST)

Are these Los Angeles Rams for real? Wins over Indianapolis and San Francisco did not exactly set pulses racing, but last weekend’s 35-30 success against Dallas has certainly made the rest of the NFL sit up and take notice, and now they have an opportunity to make another statement when they entertain the Seattle Seahawks this weekend. But will they take it? My answer is yes. Comparing these two offenses is like comparing night and day – the Rams are flying right now as Jared Goff continues to improve and Todd Gurley shows he is back to his best, while Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is trying to get the job done single-handedly while dealing with a dreadful offensive line and a non-existent passing game. The Rams have won three of their last four meetings with Seattle and each of their last three games – I see no reason why they cannot get the ‘W’ again here.

Green Bay Packers at Dallas Cowboys (21:25 BST)

These two teams are leading contenders in the NFC, according to the bookmakers, but I am yet to see anything from either side that has made me believe they are the cream of the crop. Dallas have been hammered by Denver and suffered a home defeat at the hands of the LA Rams a week ago, while Green Bay may be 3-1 but their only real test so far – the trip to Atlanta – ended in a resounding defeat. Both sides will want to make a statement on Sunday night and I am backing the Cowboys to get the job done here – they will be determined not to make it back-to-back defeats at AT&T Stadium.

Kansas City Chiefs at Houston Texans (01:30 BST Monday)

This has all the makings of a fantastic contest. Kansas City are the only unbeaten team left in the NFL and that is largely down to an outstanding offense that has been racking up the yards and points this season, with Alex Smith, Kareem Hunt, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce all playing starring roles. Houston, meanwhile, go into this game on the back of a 57-14 demolition of Tennessee that has everybody raving about rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson. It was impressive stuff from Watson but he is coming up against a much tougher defense on Sunday and he is, of course, performing under the bright lights of primetime for the first time. I do not expect him to fold, but the Chiefs have been staking a serious claim to be the AFC’s best team in 2017 and they can strengthen their claim with a win in Houston.
