Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears Betting Tips Explained

Four weeks of Monday Night Football are in the books and we have produced at least one winning bet for every game so far, while doing the double when the Denver Broncos began their 2017 season with a victory. Next up for Monday Night Football is an NFC North showdown, and here are our best bets for the showdown between the Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears at Soldier Field…

Chicago Bears fans have been clamouring for Mitchell Trubisky to become the starting quarterback ever since a series of impressive performances in the pre-season, and in Week 5 they will get their wish after head coach John Fox decided he had seen enough from Mike Glennon. And who could blame him! Glennon had been turning over the football constantly between Weeks 2-4 and his shocking play on the road meant Da Bears never even stood a chance when they visited Tampa Bay and Green Bay. And it was Glennon’s miserable performance at Lambeau Field that ultimately cost him his job as the starting quarterback.

“At the end of the day, it’s about performance,” Fox told reporters when confirming the decision to ditch Glennon in favour of Trubisky. “Ultimately that’s what we make decisions on.”

Trubisky’s addition to the offense should shake up a unit that has relied massively on the run game in the past few weeks. Unlike his predecessor, Trubisky will not be standing like a statue waiting to be hit, he will get on his bike if he needs to and has already shown he can be accurate when throwing on the run. That immediately adds a new slant to the offense that is in desperate need of a spark, but we should not get too carried away here – that Bears receiving group leaves a lot to be desired and they have been guilty of some terrible drops this season.

Trubisky’s arrival should leave to some improvement, but will it be enough to get the win against the Minnesota Vikings? I am not so sure. The Vikings may have lost Dalvin Cook to injury and they may be without Sam Bradford once again, but backup QB Case Keenum has been doing a decent job in his absence and they have the talent at wide receiver to trouble a Bears secondary that is not up to the same level as those at the front of the defense.

And speaking of defense, how can we not mention this Vikings unit which is currently ranked in the top 10 defenses overall and, more importantly, have been impressive against the run this season. That is a massive thing to consider because they are coming up against Chicago’s two-headed monster of Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen, who have been the only bright spots on Chicago’s offense this season. Da Bears will be relying on them heavily again here as they look to take some of the pressure of Trubisky, but if they cannot get that run game going they could find themselves in trouble.

I expect Minnesota to win this game by a small margin and I also expect points to be at premium. Both teams are strong on defense and should halt plenty of attempted drives, with the Vikings offense doing just enough to spoil Trubisky’s debut.
