The National Football League is heading back to the United Kingdom in 2017 and for the first time there will be four NFL International Series games taking place in London between late September and the end of October, with a fifth game being held in Mexico City.

Despite early scepticism in the United States, the introduction of regular season games being played in London has been a huge success. Crowds of well over 80,000 have attended all but one of the games played at Wembley so far, and the NFL is expecting huge crowds once again in 2017 with eight more teams crossing the Atlantic.

“We continue to be incredibly excited by the passion and love for the NFL shown by our millions of UK fans,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. “London is an amazing city. We have had tremendous support from our fans, from Mayor Khan and other government leaders and business partners, and we are looking forward to taking the next step in the UK by playing four games in London next season.”

The New York Giants and Miami Dolphins kicked things off in 2007 and since then the NFL International Series has gone from strength to strength. London was awarded a second game in 2013 and that was so successful the NFL immediately increased the number of games to three in 2014, while in 2016 Twickenham hosted its first ever non-rugby union sporting event when the Los Angeles Rams took on the New York Giants.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have become London’s adopted home team after agreeing to a multi-year deal to play at Wembley, and they will be making their fifth appearance in the English capital in 2017. The Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints, Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings will be no strangers to competing in London having previously featured in the series, while the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens will all be making their debuts.

The teams, fixtures, dates and kick-off times have been confirmed for the NFL’s 2017 International Series games, with four set to take place in London, England and another to be played in Mexico.

The 2017 International Series gets underway on Sunday, September 24 when the Jacksonville Jaguars return to their adopted home of Wembley Stadium to take on a team making their debut overseas, the Baltimore Ravens.

A week later another sell-out crowd will descend on the home of English soccer as the New Orleans Saints return to Wembley to take on the Miami Dolphins, who are making their third International Series appearance and will feature London-born running back Jay Ajayi in the offense.

Football returns to London three weeks later for Game Three, but this time it will be Twickenham playing host to an NFL game for the second time. The Los Angeles Rams lost to the New York Giants at this venue 12 months ago and they will look to get their first win at their second home when they host International Series new boys, the Arizona Cardinals, on Sunday, October 22.

The final London game will then take place at Twickenham seven days later when the Minnesota Vikings appear in the International Series for the second time, taking on the debuting Cleveland Browns, and the 2017 series will conclude in Mexico City, Mexico when the Oakland Raiders ‘host’ the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots on Sunday, November 19.
